CALIFORNIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

This weekend saw Bear Valley Bikes team members competing in several different events, all at Vail Lake, CA. Saturday was both the California State Championship Super D and the Fat Tire 50 mile event. The team had podium finishers in both events with Derek Hermon placing 3rd in the Pro Super D, Trey Jarno 3rd in the Open Super D and Karen Lundgren 3rd in the 5o mile!

Sunday was the XC race for the State Championship. Our top Pro, John Nobil, worked hard to claim 4th place. Dean Swank came 1st in Cat 1 and Fred Uttke 1st in Cat 2. Mark Blakeslee moved up to cat 1 and finished with a strong time in 2nd place. Anna Dvorak and Jess Tomazic were out there representing our Woman’s team, finishing in 1st and 2nd place. Overall, it was a great day for our Junior team, with a strong representation. Alec Burton came in 1st and beat the rest of his age group by 8 minutes! His brother Ryan took a close 4th, missing 3rd by only 2 seconds and Zachary Burton also got 4th in his category, even after having problems with his chain. It was an eventful day for the Williams family, with crashes from both Cameron and Elle. Unfortunately, Cameron smashed his helmet and could not continue, but Elle went on to claim 2nd place along with Evan Williams, also finishing 2nd in his category. Well done to everyone from Bear Valley Bikes who raced.
