One of our most popular selling mountain bikes is the Specialized Epic, and the new and improved 2014 models have now arrived at the shop. The Epic is a multiple XC World Championship winner and was the first full-suspension XC bike to capture the coveted Rainbow Jersey and an Olympic Gold medal. Available in both carbon fiber and alloy models, it features Specialized’s 29er geometry, 100mm of FSR suspension, and is equipped with the unique Brain suspension, which reads the terrain to provide the perfect ride—whether climbing or descending.

This years models include upgrades such as lighter-weight carbon roval wheels, the new Specialized S.W.A.T kit, even lighter carbon frames and redesigned crankes (also lighter). They also separated epics into 2 different model categories, the epic and the world cup epic, designed for competitive XC racing and endurance XC racing. They did this because Riders’ needs vary based on terrain. Epic riders demand a race bike that can tackle a variety of course conditions. They are looking for a wide gear range, water carrying capability, and repair item storage. Epic World Cup riders demand explosive power and tight geometry necessary to dominate the World Cup race circuit. Weight and stiffness are top-priority for this rider.

The new S.W.A.T kit is a fully integrated emergency repair kit, featuring storage, water bottle holder, air canister and multi-tool. The S.W.A.T. items are strategically integrated into the frame at the water bottle and organized by location and weight for easy access. The 2014 Epic also comes with the new Formula brakes. It has a 15mm through axle in the front but a 5mm quick release in the back (again saving more weight). They come with dual water bottle cages which are all S.W.A.T compatible.
