A hard core group of the Bear Valley Bikes Team, loaded up the Williams family van last friday, and headed South to compete in the Baja Ultra Endurance 100k Mountain Bike Race. They were greeted that evening with a warm and friendly welcome and were amazed by the generosity and kindness they experienced throughout the trip. They arose early the following morning, ready for the challenge ahead. Derek Hermon, Paul Romero and Casey Williams all competed in the Pro Category, Karen Lundgren in the Pro Women, and Ernst Mueller raced in the 50+ group. It was one of the hardest 100k the team has ever raced, with non stop climbs with gradients of up to 30%! It was relentlessly challenging throughout the race, but all five endured to the end with some excellent results. In the Pro men, Paul claimed 6th, followed by Casey in 11th and Derek in 12th. Karen triumphed in the Pro Women in 2nd Place and Ernst also came 2nd in the 50+. Bear Valley Bikes is proud to have been a part of such an amazing event, run by some great people, and can’t wait to return next year to be challenged again by the Baja 100!
